College? WHASSAT?

NO. NO. NOOOOOOO. Whyyyyyyyyyyyy???????

…I could probably finish this post right here. but. but. BUT. Because I am a selfless person who is willing to bring herself to whine to you people who obviously have nothing better to do, HERE Y’ALL GO:

I mean, this is hardly a new issue of teenagers. Lack of identity, direction, time to find more GIFs, et cetera, all important things… how can I just pick a college? D: I’m in my sophomore year of a private school in China, and our winter break is just coming to a close. and yesterday, my parents just decided that I should spend today deciding what colleges I wanted to possibly apply to so that we could plan our college tour, presumably occurring next summer.

And… I don’t even. whatttt? DX Where do I even start? I’ve used those “college match-up” services before and I WHAT HUH SO LOST. Location? I dunno probably East or West Coast but I mean really important to me or anything and my major? o_O something science-y maybe but oh god what if I don’t actually want or maybe I won’t be good at I mean I heard you don’t have to even pick a major yet until sophomore year of college? and. didn’t take the SATs yet. so. uh. okay, skipping that…

…tuition fees, ethnicity (WHAT IF THERE AREN’T ANY ASIANS AT THAT SCHOOL ERMAGERD NO WAY WHO WILL I FOB WITH), school type, school size, campus setting, public or private, historically black, so on and so forth. You get the point. By the end, the form has a few vague answers, all marked “Kinda” in “How important is this to you?” and a couple of thousand results.

I do have a dream school. I guess. o_O MIT. BUT HEY HEY HEYYYYYY before you all go judging me or whatever– I don’t even know if I really want to go there. To be honest, I got the idea that I wanted to go to MIT in kindergarten… when my school was having one of those winter boutique thingys where kids buy a bunch of crappy yet expensive gifts for family members… basically, when I was going through checkout I did mental math to get the total cost, so the mothers running the cash register, being the kind and encouraging community members that they were, advised me to go to MIT when I grew up.

so the moral of that story would be watch what you say to kids. ūüėõ Haha, mostly kidding though. It was a cool dream, I suppose, but now, I don’t know if I want to commit to that. Unfortunately, I always answered MIT the countless times to my parents asked me where I wanted to go for college while I was growing up. sooooooooo yeah :I
WOW this is already pretty long. uhm. I’ll probably cut this off here. but in any case, I guess I just wanted to close this by adding that… besides me just blubbering… any advice? I guess? >_<;;

TIME TO STOP PROCRASTINATING and piece together something for my mom~!

I am extremely bored right now, so I’m obviously doing this to kill time.

My sister has been playing soccer with her friend for the last hour and fifteen minutes. Now, I know that is nothing, when it comes to going to watch people at soccer… That is if you like the sport. If you do, then I suppose you could spend inordinate amounts of time watching people run after a ball, and kick it all the way up and down the field, whilst trying to steal it from the opposing team and score a few goals of the opposing team’s goal thing. I, however, am not one of those people. I’m also not the kind of person to sit in the sun, while pretending to have any idea of what is going on in the field. For this reason, I have spent the last hour watching the last bit of the Hunger Games movie, reading J.D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey, and Conan Doyle’s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes for the fifth time, and going through Arthur Darvill’s Instagram (because even if you’re not a Whovian *gasp*, you are sort of forced to admit that he is adorable, as my sister puts it.), and wondering if the Library might have any Avenger, or Wonder Woman, or Doctor Who comic books that might make time go by faster. As far as I can tell, there are a lot of Star Wars graphic novels, and stuff like World of Warcraft , but nothing that’s incredibly interesting. There’s also a lot of Manga and Anime stuff, but I’ve never really been into that kind of stuff, for some reason.

I’m currently getting odd looks for wearing boots in the summer. To top it off, I’m also wearing sparkly laces, because I couldn’t find the regular ones. *Spoiler Alert: I found them INSIDE ANOTHER pair of boots that do not require laces.*

I’ve had those laces for years, and wore them with my converse hi-tops, until my mom decided they looked ‘tacky’, which to be completely frank, is how she would describe my clothes a good 40% of the time. Why? I haven’t got the faintest idea. Nevertheless, they look cool. (I wear sparkly laces. Sparkly laces are cool.)

I will continue to try to fight this losing battle against boredom. Maybe the current Minister of Magic (M.O.M!) could dispatch a couple of Dementors to perform The Kiss right now. Or, better yet, Hagrid. Could send me either a Unicorn or an owl to entertain me. Or perhaps George could send me a couple of Pigmy Puffskeins to amuse me. And make my dog jealous.

I’m obsessed with Christmas Music: Why am I listening to Christmas music in August?

Sorry, dear readers for the awful delay in between posts… We were out-of-town visiting the picturesque town of Villa de Leyva (Boyaca), Colombia. We rode horses and quads through the pine-filled desert, and fed ostriches out of the palms of our hands. Also, we got Wool Boots That Make You Feel Like You’re Walking in Clouds.

Anyways, I just recently noticed I’ve been humming Christmas music to myself a lot. It’s not just stuff like “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls”, either. It’s stuff you’d find on The Ratpack’s Christmas Album, and She & Him and even Judy Garland. Admittedly this isn’t strange behaviour when it comes to me, but given that it IS AUGUST I’m a little bit worried. Afterall, it is NOT normal to sing “The Christmas Waltz” while trying to fall asleep.

Maybe I’m just really looking forward to the¬†Doctor Who¬†¬†Christmas Special and am hoping that time will fly faster if I sing this music?

Maybe I’m actually an Elf that got mistakenly sent to Human Land?

Whatever the reason, below I’ll share with you some of my favorite Christmas Songs.

“Baby It’s Cold Outside”

Alright, so this isn’t strictly a Christmas song, but it is perfect for the Winter. Of all of the recordings made of this song over the years, I’ve got to admit my favourites are the Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone version for Elf, as well as the She & Him¬†A very She & Him Christmas version, and of course Lady Antebellum’s.

also, Dean Martin is absolutely soothing in his version:

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

This is a very heart-warming and charming song. Whether it’s sung by Judy Garland in¬†Meet Me in St. Louis¬†or by Frank Sinatra on¬†Christmas with the Rat Pack¬†or by M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel on¬†A Very She & Him Christmas. Simply Delightful. Another thing that I think sets this song apart from others, is it’s soothing-ness. Check it out!

“Blue Christmas”

Although ¬†the Beach Boys ¬†released ¬†this song as a single on their Christmas Album the same day Elvis Presley released it as a single in 1964, it was Elvis’ version that drove people wild. It might have been the fact that Martina McBride sang it with him…

“White Christmas”

I think this is the reason I’m always hoping for at least a foot of snow on Christmas, despite my deep aversion to snow. The funny thing is, eventhough I always say I want it to be snowy on Christmas, I end up cursing the darned thing on our way to my Aunt’s house for Christmas Dinner, and then all the way back home. Bing Crosby’s is the best recording of this song… EVARRR!!

“Sleigh Ride”

Harry Connick Jr. is simply glorious in his rendering of this song. I might even like riding in a sleigh through THE SNOW if I could find a young fellow to sing this during the ride.

“Silver Bells”

Oh, my! I don’t know whose recording is my favourite! Bing Crosby! Harry Connick Jr! ¬†She & Him! The Rat Pack! ¬†They’re just too grand!

I’m sure I’m missing ¬†few, but those are all the ones I can think of off of the top of my head(9)¬ĺ without looking at my favourites on Pandora (which would be impossible anyways, since it can’t be accessed from Colombia…). I thank you for playing along with my insanity.

Do you have any holiday favourites? Let me know below!‚ô¶

9¬ĺ And the award for writing of and off three times in a row within the same sentence goes to…
